Is Buy to Let a Dead Strategy

Although some of the recent changes in the last few years make buy to let less attractive to some, if done correctly, still remains profitable. Its very easy to have a gloomy outlook if you are a landlord or considering becoming one. Interest rates are higher, so having a mortgage is much more expensive than it was twelve months ago and the tax position is much less favourable. Seeing buy to lets fade over recent years, many private landlords have decided to drop out and sell up. Higher interest rates have made it harder for first time buyers to get onto the property ladder and therefore a combination of these two factors means demand for rental property far out strips supply. This is clearly evident in rent costs which have dramatically increased in a number of parts of the country.

All being said, this is a great opportunity for seasoned and budding property investors to take advantage of the current climate and secure property that are below market value and create quality accomodation for a vast sectors of the market.
