In a speech from Downing Street outlining a new approach to achieving net zero, Rishi Sunk has decided to scrap plans for new private rental properties to have at least an Energy Performance Certificate rating of "C" by 2025, and all PRS properties by 2028.
He said: " We will never force any household to do it"
It appears of 80% of landlords in the UK were ready for the the EPC change however this decision to scrap the 2025 date has sparked anger among some private landlords.
Following research, 4 out of 5 landlords had already made preparations to meet the former minimum 'Band C" requirement and now view the u-turn as a waste of their time.
The Lender Shawbrook, found that nearly half of the landlords quizzed, had spent between £500 and £2000 on improving or investing in their properties over the past year.
UK average was estimates at £25,000 and £37,000 in London.
Rules may have been postponed for now but professional landlords with modern and energy efficient stock, will be in the best position to attract tenants and reduce voids yet ultimately, be in a much better position and prepared for future legislative changes.
Now, whilst policies shift, climate change is going nowhere and energy efficient buildings has to remain the central means to net zero plans.
